Translated Acts convened by ICFAR, The Poetics Centre at Birkbeck, and The Centre for Contemporary Writing at Southampton University, brings together artists, writers and researchers to investigate some of the tools, methods and ideas of contemporary visual arts and writing practices as they engage with operations of translation, transmission, exchange and collaboration across languages and art practices.
The opening panel discussion, held on the 11 December, included three interdisciplinary speakers whose work addresses the spoken, written and performative across the fields of art practice. Cole Swenson is an American poet and translator living and working in Paris; Cathy Lane is a composer and sound researcher, and is co-Director of CRiSAP (Creative Research into Sound Arts Practice); Brigid McLeer is a visual artist working with text and the book. The panel was followed, by discussion and a reception.
An all day workshop was held on Friday 12 December for doctoral students, artists and researchers to discuss and present their research in the context of cultural and practice-based exchange.
